Add Library media to a project from the editor

The first tab on the editor's left panel is Media, and it holds two shelves. One belongs to the open project. The other is your Library, shared by every project. Moving files between them takes a click or a drag, and this post shows each route.
Assets and Library
Open Media and use the switch at the top of the panel.
- Assets holds the files for this project. The empty panel says they are only available in this project. Use the Upload button, or drop files on the panel, to import them. Dropped files go into Assets and stay off the timeline until you add them.
- Library holds the files you share across projects. It has folders, templates and the same cards you see on the Library page.
Save project media to the Library
- In Assets, find the media card.
- Open its More actions menu, the three dots at the top right of the card.
- Choose Save to library. The menu button briefly turns into a check mark when it is done.
You can also drag a media card, or a clip from the timeline, onto the Library view, or onto one of its folders to file it straight into that folder. Files from your desktop dropped on the Library view upload to the Library. The file is saved as a separate copy. If you later delete the project, the Library item stays.
Use a Library item in the project
- Hover a card and click the + button, Add to timeline. DepCut copies the file into the project and puts it on the timeline.
- Drag a card onto the timeline to place it where you drop it.
- Drag a card onto the Media tile on the left panel to import it into Assets without placing it.
In every case the project gets its own copy of the file. Removing the item from the Library afterwards leaves the project as it was.
Mac and cloud
The Library in the editor lists the items it can reach right now. Cloud items are always reachable. Items stored on your Mac show up when the Mac app is running. A cloud project can use a clip stored on your Mac, and a Mac project can use a clip from the cloud. When the item sits in the project's own home, the copy happens on the server side. When it sits in the other home, the file passes through your browser on its way into the project.
Keep the Library tidy
The Library view in the editor lists your folders at the top. Click a folder to open it and use the Library breadcrumb to step back out. A card's menu offers Remove from library, and a confirmation says projects that already use the item keep their own copy. For renaming items and for the full folder tools, open the Library page from the sidebar.
Open the editor
Save the intro clip from your current project to the Library in DepCut, then open a new project and add it with the + button.
