Bubblegum Captions for Lifestyle, Food and Family Videos

Bubblegum is the pink caption style. White, rounded letters sit on a hot pink plate, and the effect is friendly and a little playful. It gives a video a personality before anyone has read a word.
What the style is made of
- The font is Rounded, bold, at 42 px.
- The letters are white, with no shadow.
- The plate is pink and slightly translucent, so a hint of the picture shows through.
- The caption sits low in the frame, in the same place as Clean.
- With Highlight spoken word on, a box follows the word being said. The box is yellow by default, with dark letters.
Videos that suit it
- Lifestyle, beauty and fashion clips.
- Cooking and food videos.
- Family moments, pets and birthday recaps.
- Playful product reveals and unboxings.
- Comedy shorts and light commentary.
The pink and the round letters set a cheerful tone. They work against a serious subject, so a video about money, health or loss usually reads better in Clean or Editorial.
Set it up
- Open the Subtitles tab, then Styles, and select Bubblegum.
- Play the clip and watch the first few captions against the footage.
- Open Options and switch on Highlight spoken word if you want a box to follow the speech.
- Use the color swatch beside the Color, Underline and Highlight buttons to pick a box color that contrasts with the pink.
Yellow on pink is bright. A white or dark box stands out more calmly, and the letters inside it adjust between dark and white automatically.
Watch the warm shots and the plate color
Pink on pink disappears. Close-ups of skin, red food, sunsets and pink flowers can sit close to the plate color, so the plate loses its edge. Step through those shots and look at the caption. If the edge blurs, drag the caption to a different part of the frame, or switch the whole project to a style with a dark plate such as Block.
The Options tab gives you controls for the font, the size and the spoken word. It has no control for the plate color, because the color belongs to the style. For a different plate, pick a different style in Styles. To change only the letters, the Font menu in Options swaps the typeface, and Reset to style brings Rounded back.
Keep the pink block small
A long caption wraps onto extra lines, and the plate grows with it. On a bright, happy shot a tall pink block pulls the eye away from the picture. Open the Content tab, click in the text where a long caption should break, and press Enter. Two short captions give you two small plates.
Try it on a recap
Cut a short recap of a birthday, a recipe or a weekend in DepCut, generate captions, and set the style to Bubblegum. Play it once with the sound off to judge the mood.
