Build a News-Style Update With an AI Anchor and Headlines
by DepCut Team
Published: October 30, 2026
A short update works when each story has the same shape: a clip, a headline, and a voice that keeps moving. This recipe builds that shape once with an AI anchor voice, then copies it for every story. Trim the footage first, because the voice goes on afterward.
Trim the stories
- Create a project. Open Aspect ratio in the left panel and choose Widescreen · 16:9.
- Open Media, press Upload and add one clip per story, in order.
- Trim each clip with Split and drop the left side and Split and drop the right side. Leave a little extra footage at the end of each clip so you can lengthen it later.
Generate the anchor
- Put the playhead at the start. Open AI Gen, choose Audio, then Voice.
- Under Audio model choose DepCut Voices and pick a voice. This model adds a Voice direction box.
- Open the arrow at the right edge of that box and pick News anchor.
- Write the whole update in Script, one paragraph per story, and press Generate audio. Generation spends account credits.
- The voice lands on the soundtrack at the playhead. New voiceovers lower the other audio while they play, and you can adjust that with Duck others under Duck in the right panel.
Fit each clip to its story
- Press Space and listen. When the voice finishes the first paragraph, press Space again to pause.
- Press Esc, then click the ruler at that spot to park the playhead exactly where story one ends.
- Drag the right edge of the first clip toward the playhead. It snaps there. A clip can only grow as far as its own footage runs.
- If the edge pulled in, right-click the gap on the main track and choose Remove empty space. Only the picture row moves, so the voice stays in place.
- Repeat for the second story.
Style one headline
- Move the playhead to the start of story one and press T.
- In the right panel's Text tab, write the tag on the first line and the headline on the second, such as "LIVE" and "Council approves new bridge".
- Open Size and Backdrop, switch the backdrop on, and set its Color and Opacity.
- Open Words, click the tag word, and pick a Box color. The tag now sits in a colored chip.
- Drag the title in the preview to the lower third.
- Open Animate. Pick Slide left under In, then select Out and pick Fade.
Copy it for the other stories
- With the headline selected, press Ctrl+C or Cmd+C.
- Move the playhead to the start of story two and press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. The copy keeps the look, position and animation.
- Change its words in the Text tab, then repeat for story three.
- Drag the right edge of each headline bar to the point where you want it to leave. The edge snaps to cuts and to the playhead.
- Add quiet music from AI Gen, Audio, Music. In the Sample library pick Corporate, drag a card onto an empty audio row below the voice, drag its bar left until it snaps to the start, and lower its Volume.
- Click the music, park the playhead where the last story ends and press Split and drop the right side. Then press Export, choose a preset and press Export video.
Run the next edition
Once the structure exists, each new edition is new clips, a new script and new words in three headlines. Open DepCut and build your first one.
