Edit a Recipe Video With Step Titles and Faster Prep

A recipe video works when viewers always know which step they are watching and when the waiting is over. This recipe turns clips shot in cooking order into a vertical video with a title on every step, faster prep and a quiet music bed.
Set up and trim
- Create a project. In the left panel open Aspect ratio and choose Vertical · 9:16.
- Open Media and press Upload. Every video you upload lands at the end of the main track, so upload in cooking order.
- Put the playhead where the action starts and press the Split and drop the left side toolbar button. Move to where the action ends and press Split and drop the right side. Each button splits and removes in one step.
Finish the picture before you add titles and music. Dropping a side closes the gap, so any title or music inside that stretch is cut with it and everything after slides earlier.
Fast-forward the waiting
- Select a slow clip, such as onions softening. Open Speed in the right panel and drag the slider up. It runs from 0.25 to 4.
- A faster clip is shorter and leaves a gap behind it. Right-click the gap on the main track and choose Remove empty space.
- To silence a clip's own sound, open Volume in the right panel and switch on Mute audio.
Label every step
- Move the playhead to the first step and press T. A title reading "Your text" appears and lasts 3 seconds. Open the Text tab in the right panel and type the step, such as "1. Chop the onions". Double-clicking the title in the preview also edits it.
- Style that first title with Size, Color and the Backdrop switch so it stays readable over the food. Each new title you add with T takes on the look of the last title you selected.
- Add a title for every step. To hold one longer, drag the right edge of its bar on the timeline. The edge snaps to cuts and to the playhead.
- Add one more title for the ingredients. A new title slides to the next free slot on the title row, so drag its bar down to a new row and left to the start. The Text box takes several lines, so list one ingredient per line.
Add the music bed
- Put the playhead at the start. Open AI Gen, choose Audio, then Music.
- Scroll to the Sample library, pick a chip such as Acoustic or Chill, hover a card and press its plus button. Describing a track and pressing Generate music also works and spends credits.
- Click the music clip, open Volume in the right panel and lower it so the cooking sounds stay clear.
- Press Export, choose a preset and press Export video. When it finishes, open Media and press the finished row under Exports. Its tooltip reads Preview as a post, and it shows your video in TikTok, Instagram and YouTube mock-ups.
Cook the next one
DepCut remembers the look of the last title you selected, so your next recipe starts with matching step labels. Open DepCut and film the next dish.
