Generate AI images in DepCut and use them in your cut

An AI image fills the gaps your footage leaves: a cover frame, a background, a still for b-roll. Open AI Gen in the left panel and choose Image. That panel holds the generator, and everything you make there stays in your project.
Generate your first image
- In the left panel, open AI Gen and choose Image. The form at the top is titled Generate image.
- Type a prompt in the box. To use an existing picture as a reference, drop an image or video into the box, or type @ and pick it.
- Choose a shape with the aspect ratio pill: Landscape (16:9), Portrait (9:16) or Square (1:1). The pill starts on the shape closest to your project.
- Choose a size with the resolution pill: 1K, 2K or 4K. Each option lists its pixel size for the shape you picked.
- Click Generate image, or press ⌘+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows).
Generating runs on your DepCut account and spends credits. When you are signed out the button is disabled and a Sign in link appears under it. You can start several images in a row. Each one shows a "Generating…" line with a running clock until it lands.
Write a prompt that names the picture
A good image prompt names four things: the subject, the setting, the style and the light. The box suggests "A neon-lit street market at night, cinematic". A stronger version adds a subject and a camera distance: "A fruit seller at a neon-lit street market at night, wide shot, wet pavement reflecting the signs, cinematic lighting."
A few habits help:
- One subject per image. Generate a second image for a second idea.
- Say how far away the camera is: wide shot, close-up, overhead.
- Pick the aspect ratio first, then compose for it. A portrait image suits a 9:16 project.
- Add readable words as a title in the editor. You control the wording and can change it later.
Below the form, Stock Images are free to browse. Each one carries the prompt that made it. Click a tile to load that prompt into the form, or expand it to read the prompt first. Change a line or two and you have a starting point in a style you already like.
Work with the results
Finished images collect under Generated, newest first. Each tile gives you these options:
- Click the tile to pick it. A blue ring marks the picked tile.
- Drag it onto the timeline to place it. Or open Expand from the corner button and click Use.
- Open the "…" menu for Use this prompt, Copy reference, Add to Media, Add to Library and Delete.
Use this prompt loads the words back into the form, ready for the next variation. Copy reference gives you an @handle. Paste it into any prompt, in this tab, the Video tab or the assistant chat, and the image comes along as a reference.
Delete removes the image from the project along with any clip that plays it, so check the timeline first.
Plan the set before you spend
Credits go out with every click, so decide what you need first. A cover frame, one background and two b-roll stills is a short list you can generate in one sitting. Check the first result at full size before you generate the rest. If the style is off, fix the prompt once and reuse it for the others.
Start with a cover frame
Open AI Gen and choose Image in DepCut, generate a cover frame for your next project, and drag it to the start of the timeline.
