Generate AI video clips in the DepCut Video tab

You need a shot you never filmed: a drone move over a coastline, a street at night, a product on a table. Open AI Gen in the left panel and choose Video to render a short clip from a text prompt. The clip comes back with audio in the same pass.
Make a clip
- In the left panel, open AI Gen and choose Video. The form at the top is titled Generate video.
- Describe the shot in the prompt box. The box suggests "A drone shot rising over a foggy coastline at sunrise".
- Set the options in the toolbar under the box.
- Click Generate video, or press ⌘+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows).
Generating runs on your DepCut account and spends credits. When you are signed out, the button is disabled and a Sign in link appears under it.
Know the toolbar
The row of small controls under the prompt box sets how the clip renders:
- Model picks the model that renders the clip. Each row in the list shows the top resolution and the clip lengths that model offers.
- Resolution lists the sizes the chosen model supports. A model with no resolution setting hides this control.
- How references are used switches between Frames and Ingredients when you attach pictures. Frames plays an attached picture as the first frame. Ingredients uses the pictures to keep a person or object looking the same.
- Number of takes renders x1, x2, x3 or x4 independent clips from one click. The button then reads, for example, Generate 3 videos.
- Duration lists the lengths the chosen model offers, such as 4s, 6s or 8s on some models.
- Aspect ratio picks 9:16 or 16:9. It starts on the orientation closest to your project.
The sliders button, More settings, opens the same references, aspect ratio, duration and takes options as a row of buttons. Some models decide resolution and clip length themselves, and More settings shows a note saying so when you pick one.
While it renders
The panel says renders take a minute or two, and you can keep editing while one runs. Each render appears as a row with a "Rendering…" line and a running clock. Several can run together. If a render fails, the row shows the error with a Retry button and a Dismiss button.
Each take is its own render and spends credits like any other. Start with x1 while you work on the prompt, and raise the count when you want options to choose between.
Use the result
A finished clip becomes a tile. Hover it to play the clip with sound. Then:
- Click the + button (Add to timeline), or drag the tile onto the timeline.
- Click Expand to see it large.
- Open the "…" menu for Use this prompt, Copy reference, Add to Media, Add to Library and Delete.
Use this prompt puts the words back in the form so you can change one detail and render again. Copy reference gives an @handle you can paste into another prompt, and the clip comes along as a reference.
Below the form, Stock Videos are bundled clips you can browse. Hover one to play it, or click it to load the prompt that made it into the form. That gives you a working example to edit. A click on a tile under Talking Characters switches the form to character mode, where you type the line the character speaks.
Fit the clip to your project
The models render 16:9 or 9:16. In a project with another shape, the clip is letterboxed until you select it, open the Framing tab in the right panel and switch the toggle to Fill.
Next step
Open AI Gen and choose Video in DepCut, render one 9:16 or 16:9 clip from a single sentence, and add it between two of your own shots.
