How Details turns your tags into hashtags and counts them

The Details tab in the left panel holds the words that go out with your video: a caption, a tag line and a sound title. While you type, the tab does two jobs. It turns your tags into hashtags, and it counts characters. Knowing both rules saves you from pasting a post that reads wrong.
How tags become hashtags
Type your tags into the Tags box. The placeholder shows the pattern: "fyp howto cut".
- Spaces and commas both separate tags, and extra gaps are ignored.
- A leading # is optional. DepCut strips the leading # characters you type and adds exactly one back.
- Every separated word is its own tag. "how to cut" becomes #how #to #cut. For one hashtag made of several words, join them yourself, as in "howtocut".
Small chips appear under the box with the finished hashtags. Read them before you copy anything. A misspelled word or a tag you meant to join shows up there at once, which is far easier to fix now than in a published post.
Choose tags that name the subject and the format of the video. Every tag spends part of the 4,000 characters, so each one should describe something a viewer will see.
How the counter works
Under the copy button, a counter reads like "212 / 4,000". It adds the caption and the hashtag line together, including the blank line that sits between them. The note under the Tags box says the same thing: tags count toward the caption limit. Past 4,000 the number turns red and bold.
That note also suggests 3 to 5 focused tags. A short tag line leaves more of the limit for the caption.
Write the first line first
The Caption box asks "What's happening in this video?" and adds that hooks read best in the first line. Put the line that earns the view at the top and the detail after it. The platform mock-ups in Preview as a post cut a long caption to two or three lines, so the first line is the part that always shows there. Write the caption after the cut is locked, so the words match the video a viewer actually sees.
Fill in the tab and copy it out
- Open Details in the left panel.
- Write the caption in Caption, hook first.
- Type your tags in Tags and check the chips.
- Add a track name in Sound title if your post uses one.
- Read the counter and trim until it sits under 4,000, the TikTok caption limit. Other platforms set their own limits, so check the one you post to.
- Press Copy caption + tags. The button copies the caption, a blank line and the hashtags, then reads Copied for a moment.
Each box also has its own small Copy button for one piece at a time. The big button stays off until the caption or the tags have text. Everything you type saves with the project, and the top bar shows Saving and then Saved.
What the sound title does
The Sound title box takes a name such as "My track — artist". The TikTok, Instagram and YouTube mock-ups show it on their sound line. With the box empty, those mock-ups show "original sound" followed by the handle.
Before your next export
