Move a project between your Mac and the cloud

A project stays in the home where it was created until you move it. A move copies the edit and every media file to the other home, waits for the copy to finish, and only then deletes the original. You can start a move from the editor or from the Projects page.
Move to the cloud from the editor
- Open a project that lives on your Mac.
- Click Cloud in the top bar. Its tooltip reads Move to Cloud. In a narrow window the button shrinks to an icon, and in the narrowest layout it sits in the More actions menu.
- Read the note in the dialog. It says the move copies this project and its media to the cloud, then removes it from this Mac, and that exports rendered on the Mac stay behind.
- Click Move to Cloud. The button shows progress while the media goes up, for example "Moving media 2/5…".
When the copy is done, the editor reopens on the cloud project. Before the copy starts, the editor waits for pending changes to save, so the cloud project holds your latest cut.
Move from the Projects page
- Open the Projects page from Editor, then Video, in the sidebar.
- Open the Project actions menu on a card. It is the three dots at the top right of the card.
- Choose Move to Cloud for a project on your Mac, or Move to this Mac for a cloud project.
The entry shows up when both homes are available. That means you are signed in and the Mac app is running, because the app is the only way to reach your Mac's side.
What comes along
- The whole edit, with its timeline and settings.
- Every media file the project uses.
- The project name.
- The project's conversations with the assistant.
What stays behind:
- Exports you already rendered. Keep a copy of any export you still need before you start.
- The folder. The moved project lands at the top level of the Projects page, so file it into a folder again.
The moved project is a new project, and the original disappears from the list once the copy is in place.
If a move fails
DepCut removes the original only after the copy is complete. If something goes wrong halfway, such as a media file that cannot be read, DepCut deletes the half-made copy and shows an error like "Could not move the project." In the editor the message appears in the dialog, and on the Projects page it appears in red under the header. The original is still where it was, and you can try again.
When a move makes sense
- Move to the cloud when you want to share a link, or open the project from another computer.
- Move to your Mac when you want the files on your own disk, visible in Finder.
Try it on your own footage
Pick a small project in DepCut, move it to the other home, and check the icon on its card.
