Review AI clips and mix them with your real footage

Media you generate from the Video or Image choice under AI Gen waits on a tile in that panel. Media the AI assistant makes waits on a card in the chat. Nothing joins your timeline until you place it, which gives you a review step before any AI shot touches the cut.
Look before you place
Treat every generated clip as a take that still needs a decision.
- Under AI Gen, in Video, hover a finished tile to play it. The preview plays with sound, and the clip has its own audio, so listen as well as watch.
- Click Expand in the tile's corner for a large view.
- Compare the clip with what you asked for. Check hands, faces, motion that jumps, and anything in the background you did not want.
- If it misses, open the "…" menu and choose Use this prompt. Change one thing and generate again. Set Number of takes to x2 or x3 when you want several options to compare.
You can also ask the assistant to look. Attach the clip with @ and ask whether it matches the shot you described. The assistant can watch footage in your project by sampling frames, and it can listen to the audio.
Place the good takes
- Drag the tile onto the timeline.
- Click the + button on a video tile (it is titled Add to timeline).
- In the expanded view, click Use.
When the assistant generates for you, the result stays on its card until you ask for it in the cut. Say "add it to the timeline" when you want it placed.
Match it to your real footage
AI video renders in 16:9 or 9:16. If your project uses another shape, the clip is letterboxed by default. Select the clip and use these tabs in the right panel:
- Framing switches between Fit and Fill. Fill crops the clip to cover the frame. Use the Zoom slider, or drag the clip in the preview, to keep the subject in view.
- Volume balances the clip's own sound against your real audio. Mute it if you plan to lay music or a voiceover underneath.
- Color adjusts the clip's look, which helps when it and your footage seem to come from different days.
- Drag the clip's edges on the timeline to trim it. Keep the strongest moment and cut the rest.
For the join between a real shot and an AI shot, try a short transition from the Transitions tab. A quick crossfade softens the step between two different looks.
Keep what you want to reuse
A generated asset lives where it was made. Open the "…" menu on its tile and choose Add to Media to file it with your imports, or Add to Library to reuse it in other projects.
Chat media follows one more rule. Whatever a chat thread still owns is deleted with that thread. Place a clip on the timeline or file it into Media or the Library first, and it stays.
Delete on a video tile asks before it removes a clip that plays on the timeline. It tells you how many places will lose the clip, and the file cannot be restored.
Spend less on review
Generation spends credits, and undo removes a clip without refunding them. Review the first take at full size, fix the prompt once, and then render the rest of the set.
Run one test clip
Generate one clip in DepCut, play it against a real shot on the timeline, and adjust Framing and Volume until the two sit together.
