What viewers see and how to copy a shared project

A DepCut share link opens a project in view-only mode. This post explains what you see when you open one, how it differs on a phone, and how to copy the project into your own account. If you are the owner, it also shows what your share settings decide.
Opening the link
What happens first depends on how the owner set up access.
- If the link is open to anyone, the project loads with no sign-in.
- If it is restricted, you sign in. The page says the project is shared with specific people and shows a Sign in button. If your account's email was not invited, you see that you do not have access as that email, and you need to ask the owner to invite you.
- If the owner switched the share off, the page says the share link is not active anymore.
What you see on a desktop
The editor opens in view-only mode. The top bar shows the project name, a View only chip and a Copy project button. You can play the preview and move around the timeline, but you cannot change anything.
The left panel shows only the surfaces the owner chose to share:
- Media for uploaded files beyond the timeline.
- The AI generation tabs for generated video, image and audio.
- Subtitles for the transcript.
- Details for the caption, tags and notes.
If the owner shared chat, an Agent button appears in the top bar to open the shared conversations. Your own Library never shows in a shared view.
The view follows the owner's edits with a delay. DepCut checks for a newer version on an interval and reloads the project when it finds one, keeping your playhead where it was.
What you see on a phone
On a narrow screen DepCut plays the cut as a single video with your device's controls, so the phone does not have to run the full editor. While the video is being prepared you see "Getting this project ready to play…". Shared surfaces appear as tabs along the bottom, Details, Transcript, Media and Chat, and each opens as a sheet over the video.
Copy the project
- Click Copy project in the top bar. If you are signed out, DepCut sends you to sign in and brings you back to the link.
- Wait while the button reads Copying…. Copies run in a queue, so a busy moment can add a short wait.
- When it finishes, the copy opens in the editor as your own project, and it is listed on your Projects page.
The copy contains what the share exposed and nothing more: the timeline, the media the cut uses, and the surfaces the owner switched on. Chat threads come along only if chat was shared. A transcript, notes or generated files that the owner kept hidden are not in the copy.
The copy is a normal cloud project in your account, with its own copies of the media. Edit it, rename it, move it to a folder or share it yourself. The original owner's project stays as it was.
For owners
The switches under Also share decide both what viewers see and what a copy contains. Turn on Subtitles if you want viewers to see your captions on playback. Leave Chat and Details off for a client review that should only show the cut.
Try it
Share a small project from DepCut, open the link in a private window, and click Copy project to see the viewer's side.
