What the top bar save messages mean in DepCut

DepCut has no Save button. Every edit saves in the background, and the result shows in a small label beside the project name in the top bar. Knowing the five states saves you from guessing whether your work is safe.
The labels
- Saved, with a check mark. The latest version of your project is stored, and the label fades to a quieter tone while nothing is pending.
- Saving, with a spinner. An edit is on its way. This appears a moment after you change something.
- Uploading, or Uploading 3 files. Files you added to a Cloud project are still copying to project storage.
- 1 import failed (or 2 imports failed), in red, with a Retry link. A file never finished copying.
- Couldn't save, in red with a warning triangle. The last save attempt failed.
On a very narrow window the words drop away and only the icon remains. The colors and shapes stay the same.
Pressing the save shortcut
Pressing ⌘S (Ctrl+S on Windows) does nothing visible. The project autosaves continuously, so the editor has no manual save step. The shortcut is caught so your browser does not open its own save-page dialog. Watch the label and wait for Saved.
When it says Couldn't save
A dropped connection or a server error is the usual cause, for example a laptop that just woke up and has not found the network yet. The editor tries again by itself and waits a little longer between tries.
- Leave the tab open and watch the label.
- When the connection returns, the label goes back to Saving and then Saved.
- If it stays red, make any small edit. The next change starts a fresh save attempt.
- Do not close the tab while the label is red.
Reloaded a newer version saved elsewhere
In a Cloud project you may see a dark banner at the top of the editor reading "Reloaded a newer version saved elsewhere." It has a small X button to close it.
It appears when your save meets a newer stored version. Another session saved first, for example the same project open in a second browser tab or on another device. The editor loads the newer version and tells you, so what you see on the timeline is now the stored one.
Look the timeline over before you carry on. To avoid the banner, keep a Cloud project open in one place at a time, and close the other tab or device before you edit.
Uploading and failed imports
Both labels hold Export back, because an export reads the saved project and an import still in flight is left out of it. Press Retry next to a failed import, or wait for Uploading to clear. The Media tile of a stuck file shows Upload failed with its own Retry.
Check before you leave
Glance at the label before you export or close the tab. Open DepCut, make a change, and watch it move from Saving to Saved.
