Why typing does not change your title text in DepCut

You press T, a title appears reading "Your text", and you start typing your own words. The title stays the same. Meanwhile your clip may have split in two and a second title may have appeared. Nothing is broken. The keyboard is talking to the editor, and the title is waiting for you to open it.
What your keystrokes did
While no text box has focus, single keys are editor shortcuts:
- S splits the clip at the playhead, or at the pointer when it hovers the timeline.
- T adds another title.
- Space plays and pauses.
- Backspace and Delete remove the selected item.
- Left and Right arrows move the playhead.
Typing "Sale Today" splits the clip at the S, starts playback at the space and adds a new title at the T. Any word with an S or a T cuts the clip and stacks titles the same way. A Backspace used to fix a typo can delete the title you wanted to keep.
To undo the extras, press ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows) once per action until the timeline looks right again.
Edit the words in the right panel
- Click the title in the preview, or its bar in the title row of the timeline, to select it.
- Open the Text tab in the right panel. It leads the row of tabs for a title, ahead of Trim, Font, Align and the rest.
- Click inside the text box and type. The preview updates as you type.
Press Enter for a second line. The Text tab also has an Insert emoji button in the corner of the box. Pick an emoji and it lands at the cursor.
Once the words are right, the same row of tabs styles the title: Trim, Font, Align, Size, Color, Words, Spacing, Line height, Outline, Shadow, Backdrop, Bubble, Behind, Transform and Animate. Each opens one group of settings, so the Text tab stays free for the words alone.
Edit it right on the video
- Double-click the title in the preview. The words become editable.
- Press ⌘A (Ctrl+A on Windows) to select the placeholder, then type your own text.
- Click anywhere outside the title, or press Esc, to commit the change.
Delete every word on the video and commit, and the title falls back to "Your text".
Why shortcuts pause inside a text box
The shortcut handler ignores key presses while the cursor sits in a text area, a menu list or editable text. That is why the same letters work inside the Text tab and inside a title you double-clicked. Click into the box first, and every letter you type lands in the words.
If a letter does something odd, check whether a text box had focus. Click outside the box to leave it, and S and T become shortcuts again.
A habit worth keeping
Select the title, open Text, and type there. Open DepCut, press T once, and write your words in the right panel.
