Work on a cloud project from any browser

A cloud project lives on DepCut's servers and belongs to your account, so any browser you sign in on can open it, along with its media and its edit. Finishing a cut on a different computer takes a short list of steps. This post covers them, plus the indicators that show your work is stored.
Put the project in the cloud
New projects go to the home you pick on the Dashboard. If you can use both homes, open the small button on the New Project card and choose Cloud. Without the Mac app running, every new project is already a cloud project.
A project that currently lives on your Mac can move to the cloud with the Cloud button in the editor's top bar. The move copies the edit and media across, then removes the Mac original.
Open it on another computer
- Sign in to DepCut with the same account.
- Open the Projects page, or the Projects row on the Dashboard.
- Click the project. When you use both homes, cloud projects carry a cloud icon on their card.
The first time you open a project on a new computer, DepCut downloads the media that browser is missing in the background, starting with what the timeline uses first. Scrubbing gets more responsive as the files arrive. DepCut also keeps the last copy of your project list and open documents in the browser, so coming back to a project draws quickly while the latest version loads behind it.
Read the top bar
Next to the project name, a small status tells you where your work stands.
- Saving appears while changes go to the server.
- Saved means the cloud copy is current.
- Couldn't save means a save failed, so check your connection before you switch devices.
Files you drop into a cloud project show up on the timeline right away, and the top bar shows Uploading, or the number of files, while they go up. Share and Export stay disabled with the tooltip "Finishing uploads…" until the uploads end. If an import fails, the bar says how many imports failed and offers Retry.
Keep one editor open per project
If the same project is open in two tabs, or on two computers, only one of them can be the newest. When an editor tries to save over a newer stored version, DepCut loads the newer version into it and shows the notice "Reloaded a newer version saved elsewhere." You can dismiss it with the Dismiss button.
To avoid the notice:
- Wait for Saved before you leave one computer.
- Close the project on the old computer before you edit it on the new one.
Cloud projects and the Mac app
Cloud editing works with the Mac app closed or not installed at all. Closing the app affects the projects and Library items stored on your Mac, which stay in your lists as read-only cards until the app is back. Cloud projects are the ones you can share with a link, so a project you plan to review with other people belongs here.
Give it a go
Start a small cloud project in DepCut, wait for Saved, and open it from a second browser to check that everything came with you.
